Overview

The Production and Inventory Planner is responsible for the overall production planning process to support demand planning and inventory management by optimizing inventory and costs to meet production / forecasting / turn rates and scheduling efficiencies. He/she will develop the production planning and schedule for the replenishment of new and existing products in support of inventory objectives and facility goals. The incumbent will focus on supply and production planning, master schedule planning, inventory turns, and excess/obsolete inventory management. The incumbent will develop production control plans based on backlog, new customer orders, forecasted orders, inventory levels, minimum order quantities, and lead times.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed production plans in alignment with forecasted sales and sales orders that have been placed, by factoring in capacity, production staffing, and efficiency; review MPS with production team on a periodic basis
  • Plan, coordinate, schedule and monitor movement of material throughout the production cycle using MRP system (Sage). Communicate expedite and supplier delivery commitments needed to support production requirements
  • Continuously review and action MRP reports to maintain sufficient inventory levels on forecast driven products, RMA materials, and finished goods inventory levels.
  • Create, prepare, distribute, monitor and follow-up on purchasing actions based upon forecasted sales, sales orders that have been placed, and historical parts usage based upon RMA activity.
  • Ensure inventory data is accurate and updated regularly. Generate actuals, review and provide inventory variation explanation on a monthly basis. Identify and resolve excess, slow move and obsolete inventory issues
  • Consistently maintain proper inventory levels; manage all inventories including raw materials, packaging, and finished goods; analyze historical sales trends to forecast accurate inventory targets and allocations.
  • Collaborate with purchasing department with purchasing raw materials for production in line with demand for finish goods, sales, RMA processing, and safety stock targets
  • Identify potential supply risks and inventory exposures by aligning supply chain and manufacturing processes with production plans.
  • Develop and maintain countermeasures to address root causes for products on consistent backorder or consistently missing delivery targets.
  • Support physical inventory counts, reconcile inventory variances
  • Work with Engineering to determine production and material requirements for upcoming future projects, and product transitions.
  • Continuously review and action MRP reports to maintain sufficient inventory levels on forecast driven products, RMA materials, and finished goods inventory levels.
  • Coordinate proper rotation of inventory to minimize scrap/reworked parts.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required; Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or Logistics preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience; APICS CSCP or CPIM certification preferred
  • Three (3) or more years’ experience in supply planning and purchasing in a manufacturing setting, including strong knowledge of production planning and/or master scheduling
  • Strong analytical, planning, organizational and follow through skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently under pressure and react quickly to changing priorities
  • Experience with the dynamics that drive the supply chain in manufacturing process strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in supply planning skills of multiple complex product lines
  • Knowledge and experience in utilizing manufacturing resource planning systems (MRP), preferably Sage; experience with materials management tools: BOM, Item Master, Costing, Forecasted Demand
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
