Responsibilities

Insurance Verification Specialist I

  • Can perform all of the functions as defined below with direct supervision:
    • Verify benefit eligibility
    • Initiate and obtain prior authorization from insurance carriers
    • Selecting the appropriate insurance and entering all necessary billing information
    • Communicate with Sales and Customer Care for priority handling of patients
    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal customers
    • Follow up with department email and authorization faxes
    • Adhere to processes according to department procedures
    • Ensure the accuracy of data
    • May obtain missing information from patients and practices
    • May be responsible for answering patient coverage questions
    • Other duties as assigned

 

Insurance Verification Specialist II

  • Can perform all of the functions as defined above with minimum supervision (consistently meeting/exceeding expectations in Productivity and Quality for all functions)

 

Insurance Verification Specialist III - Lead

  • Can perform all of the functions as defined above with little to no supervision (consistently meeting/exceeding expectations in Productivity and Quality in all functions) plus the duties described below:
    • Facilitate workflow of designated area (regions) to ensure all patients are completed timely
    • Identify and recommend improvement opportunities based upon root cause analysis of denied claims
    • Communicate patterns to the staff as well as report all findings to management

Qualifications

Education

High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or related field preferred

 

 

Experience

  • Up to three (3) years experience- Insurance Verification Specialist I
  • Up to five (5) years experience- Insurance Verification Specialist II and consistently

meeting/exceeding expectations in Productivity and Quality in all functions

  • Up to seven (7) years experience- Reimbursement Specialist III and consistently    meeting/exceeding expectations in Productivity and Quality in all functions

 

 

Knowledge/Skills

  • Experience in a HIPAA regulated environment
    • Experience in a processing center environment ICD9, EOB’s, third party payors, Medicare, managed care, private pay
    • Sense of urgency in handling time sensitive patients
    • Should have knowledge of CardioNet product lines and be able to communicate effectively with other internal customer
    • Knowledge of benefits verification and authorizations
    • Computer skills including proficiency in Windows MS Office – Excel, Word and Outlook
    • Customer service skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills including phone etiquette
    • Detail oriented, following through on tasks, problem-solving, troubleshooting and multi-tasking
    • Ability to perform data entry with minimal guidance and minimal errors
    • Self-starter, demonstrates initiative and flexibility in a fast paced environment
    • Being a team player and professionalism

 

Physical Job Requirements

  • Lifting 10 lbs or less
  • Using fine motor skills such as typing and scanning
  • Frequently talking using phone headset and/or hearing
  • Seeing via computer screen and associated documents
